Worx WG733E review: the 10 kg brushless mower, its 200 square metres and the three figures Worx gives for it

The lightest full-size cordless mower on our shortlist: 10 kg with its battery, a brushless 20 V motor, a 33 cm cut-to-edge deck, six heights to 75 mm and a 4.0 Ah PowerShare battery. This review is about what 10 kg changes, what IntelliCut does, how far one battery goes, and why Worx's own pages quote three different lawn sizes for the same mower.

A 20 V cordless rotary mower with a brushless IntelliCut motor, a 33 cm cut-to-edge deck, six cutting heights from 25 to 75 mm on one lever, a 35 l grass bag, and a 4.0 Ah PowerShare battery with a 2 A charger in the box. Worx rates it for up to 200 square metres per charge on its UK page, 10 kg with battery, 9 without, and gives a three-year warranty if registered within 30 days. All from uk.worx.com.

Strengths

  • 10 kg with battery, the lightest full mower here
  • Six heights up to 75 mm for a long first cut
  • Three-year warranty on registration

Limitations

  • Worx's own pages quote 200, 250 and 300 m² for the same mower
  • One 4.0 Ah battery; a second is extra

Good for

  • a small lawn and a shed with Worx 20 V tools
  • anyone who finds mowers heavy to lift

Look elsewhere if

  • a lawn over 200 m² on one battery

Ten kilograms

Most cordless mowers in this class are 11 to 13.5 kg; the Worx is 10 with the battery fitted. That is the difference between a mower you carry up two steps to the back lawn and one you bump up them, and between folding the handle and hanging it on a hook or leaving it on the floor. For a small garden where the shed is up a step, this is the figure that sells it.

The motor and the battery

Brushless, with Worx’s IntelliCut control that raises power in thick grass and drops it in thin. One 20 V 4.0 Ah battery: 80 watt-hours by arithmetic, which Worx translates into 200 square metres on its UK page, 250 on another Worx page and 300 on its EU site. The 200 figure is the one to plan on. A second battery is the cure for a bigger lawn, and it also powers the rest of the Worx 20 V range.

The cut

A 33 cm deck with a cut-to-edge design that takes the blade close to the wheel line, so a border needs less strimming. Six heights from 25 to 75 mm by a single lever: 25 for a short formal lawn, 75 for the first cut of April. The 35 l bag is average for the width; expect to empty it twice on 100 square metres of fortnightly growth.

Warranty

Two years, extended to three when registered online within 30 days. Worx states it plainly on the product page.

Who should buy it

A small-garden owner who finds mowers heavy, anyone already on Worx 20 V batteries, and anyone who wants a brushless mower with a full height range at the bottom of the price range.

Who should not

A lawn over 200 square metres mown in one go, which wants the Gtech CLM50 or a second battery; a lawn you want striped, which wants the Worx WG779E.2 with its roller; and anyone who already owns Bosch, Flymo or Einhell batteries, who should buy on that platform.

How much lawn does one battery do?

Worx's UK product page says up to 200 square metres on the 4.0 Ah battery; other Worx pages say 250 and 300. We record 200 and flag the conflict. On dry grass cut fortnightly, 200 is a fair planning figure; the first cut of spring will be less.

What is IntelliCut?

The brushless motor's controller, which raises power when the blade meets thicker grass and drops it on thin, so the battery is spent where it is needed. It is why a brushless mower gets more lawn from the same 80 watt-hours than a brushed one.

Can I use the battery in other tools?

Yes. The 4.0 Ah WA3644 is a Worx PowerShare 20 V pack and fits every Worx 20 V tool, and two of them run Worx's 40 V tools. A second battery doubles the lawn and runs the hedge trimmer afterwards.

Is it really 10 kg?

Worx states 10 kg with the battery and 9 without, on its UK page. The listing gives dimensions but no weight. It is the only full-size mower on our shortlist under 11 kg by its maker's figure.

Kärcher K 4 Classic vs Bosch UniversalAquatak 135: the two mid-size pressure washers, on bar, litres and hose

Two air-cooled washers at the same point in the market: Kärcher's plain K 4 with 130 bar, 420 litres an hour and two lances, and Bosch's UniversalAquatak with 135 bar, 450 litres an hour and one nozzle that twists between three jets. Which one suits a patio and a car comes down to flow, hose length, weight and whether you want to swap lances or twist a nozzle.
