Sunny Health & Fitness Smart Folding X-Bike review: the 23.5 kg folding bike with a backrest, bands and an app

The one folding X-bike on our shortlist with a maker's page behind it: 14 magnetic levels, a padded seat with a mesh backrest, resistance bands clipped to the frame, Bluetooth to Sunny's app and a 135 kg rider limit, in a frame that weighs 23.5 kg. This review is about what the backrest and bands add, what 23.5 kg means for folding it every day, and what Sunny states and the listing supplies.

A folding X-frame exercise bike with 14 levels of magnetic resistance, an adjustable padded seat with a breathable mesh backrest, integrated resistance bands, a console with Bluetooth to the SunnyFit app, foot straps, a pulse grip and transport wheels. Sunny’s page gives the features; the UK listing gives 135 kg maximum rider weight, 97 by 56 by 134 centimetres in use and 23.5 kg.

Strengths

  • A maker's page and a UK presence behind it
  • Backrest and bands for a seated session
  • 14 levels, Bluetooth app

Limitations

  • 23.5 kg is a lot to fold and wheel away
  • Maximum user weight quoted differently in the UK and US

Good for

  • a flat with somewhere to wheel it, and a rider who wants back support

Look elsewhere if

  • anyone who needs to lift it into a cupboard

The backrest and the bands

The backrest turns a 20-minute upright pedal into a 45-minute seated one: you lean back, read or watch, and keep turning. The bands clip to the frame and give the arms and shoulders something to do while the legs work, which is what the 4-in-1 and 5-in-1 labels on these bikes mean. Neither is essential; both are why people keep using the bike in February.

Fourteen levels

Magnetic resistance in 14 steps from a light spin to a climb that makes you breathe hard. It is enough for fitness, as these bikes are; it is not a spin bike’s flywheel and a strong cyclist will find the top level light within a season. Sunny states the mechanism and the count on its page.

Weight and folding

The honest number: 23.5 kg. The frame folds and the wheels roll it to a wall, and that is how it will be stored, upright against a wall or in a corner. It is not a bike you lift into a wardrobe. The upside is the frame: at 23.5 kg it does not flex or creak near the 135 kg limit the way a 14 kg bike does.

The app

Bluetooth to SunnyFit for guided rides and a log. Useful for a month; the console does the job after. The pulse grips on the handlebars work without it.

Who should buy it

A flat with a corner the bike can keep, a rider who wants back support for longer sessions, a heavier rider who wants a frame that feels solid, anyone who wants a brand with a UK presence behind a folding bike.

Who should not

Anyone who must fold and lift the bike daily, for whom the Ultrasport F-Bike or the Evoland X-813 is half the weight; a cyclist who wants a heavy flywheel and a hard top level, who should buy a spin bike that does not fold.

  2. Amazon listing (Sunny Health & Fitness) — Retailer listing, checked 23 October 2026
How heavy is 23.5 kg in practice?

Heavy for a folding bike: the Ultrasport F-Bike is 15.5 kg and the Evoland 14.3. It has transport wheels, so it rolls to a wall folded; it does not get lifted into a cupboard. If the bike will live in the corner of the room, the weight is a sign of a solid frame; if it must disappear daily, choose a lighter one.

What is the maximum rider weight?

135 kg on the UK listing and Currys' page; Sunny's US pages quote 300 lb, which is 136 kg, so the figures agree within rounding. We record 135 kg from the listing because Sunny's UK-facing page did not state it.

Is the app necessary?

No. The bike works with its LCD console alone. The SunnyFit app pairs over Bluetooth for guided sessions and logging; it is the kind of app people use for a month. The bands and the backrest are the features you keep using.

Magnetic or friction?

Magnetic, 14 levels, which is silent and does not wear. Sunny states it on the product page, which is more than most bikes at this price can say.

Best folding exercise bikes for a flat: six X-frame bikes compared on levels, weight limit, footprint and weight

A folding exercise bike is the gym kit that fits a British flat: it stands behind a door when folded and is quiet enough for a neighbour below. The figures that matter are the resistance levels, the maximum rider weight, the footprint in use and folded, the bike's own weight, and whether there is a backrest. Six X-frame bikes, from a 14 kg budget fold-up to the 23.5 kg Sunny with an app.

A home gym in a flat: footprint, floor loading, weight limits and noise, with the figures that matter

Exercise kit for a flat is chosen by three constraints that never appear on the box: the floor space it takes in use and folded, the weight it puts through a floor shared with a neighbour, and the noise it makes at seven in the morning. This guide works through each with the makers' figures for a folding bike and adjustable dumbbells, and says what to buy first.

Bowflex SelectTech 552i vs Hakeno 2 × 24 kg: the brand dial dumbbell against the budget pair

The same idea at two prices: a dumbbell that picks up plates from a tray by a dial or a twist, 15 settings to 24 kilograms. Bowflex sells one dumbbell with a manual and every figure published; Hakeno sells two with a listing and a three-year warranty claim. The decision is one or a pair, how much a checkable maker is worth, and what happens when something breaks.
